The Refuge Golf Course at Gulf Shores Alabama State Park is an 18 hole public course. It is one of the five public golf courses located on Alabama State Parks. The course is a 72 par and is 6,563 yards long. The cost for 18 holes including cart for two persons was around $50, which is on the low end for a round of play. The facilities include a driving range, practice pitching and putting greens.
The signage on the road for the entrance to the golf course was large and easy to see.
The walk up to the entrance of the club house is a reminder that you are in the south with lots of Spanish Moss hanging from the trees.
The pro shop is small and has a decent selection of equipment and accessories in case you forgot to bring everything you need.
The snack bar had plenty of places to sit with tables and bar stools. The menu offered sandwhiches, breakfast, and drinks with prices that were very reasonable.
The signage to start the course and for each hole was excellent providing distance from the tees and a map of the hole.
One thing the drives me crazy on some golf courses is the lack of signage for navigating around the course. The signs at Refuge did not disappoint.
The course is very well maintained with good tee boxes, nice wide fairways, and the greens are in excellent condition. The greens are what I would call medium in speed, so spend some time on the practice putting green to get used to the speed before you start.
The fairways are wide and very, very flat. They were also cut extremely short when I played. It had not rained, so at times it felt as if I was trying to hit an iron shot off of green concrete. The course has a minimal number of bunkers per hole. I am ok with that as I prefer my sand at the beach.
I would definitely play this course every time I visit Gulf Shores or go camping at the state park. You can read the CampGolfEat review of the Gulf Shores State Park campground at https://campgolfeat.com/2016/01/17/gulf-shores-campground-gulf-shores-al/

With extremely short notice and no availability at any campground at a beach in Florida, Alabama or South Carolina, I luckily found that Live Oak Landing in Freeport, FL had availability for our Spring Break camping weekend.
Although, not on a beach, this campground is located tucked away on Choctawhatchee Bay. There is fresh and salt water fishing right at the campground. A fishing guide is available at reasonable fees.
